Holiday Family Fun in HRM – For Free!

Holiday-Family-Fun-in-HRM_Scotia-FuelsDecember is a wonderful time for family get-togethers to celebrate the Holiday Season. In HRM, there are dozens of events to attend that provide for a vast array of individual tastes.  Trying to get the whole family to agree on what to take in can be a challenge.  With this in mind, we thought it would be interesting to put out a list of some traditional activities that can be done at little or no cost that encourage participation by young and old alike.

+ Hopping in the car to see the lights of Metro – this never gets old!  Just driving slowly from street to street to see the beautiful holiday decorations on homes and buildings can be a wonderful activity for all generations. Have someone silently count how many oohs and ahhs they hear during the trip.

+ Buying your Christmas tree or even cutting your own. Take the kids to one of the many tree lots around HRM, pick out your own tree and bring it home on your car roof.  Put it in the house and decorate it as a family.  Make sure there’s lots of eggnog and holiday music on hand.

+ Visiting Santa.  The younger children will love this and what’s better for parents than seeing youngsters so much at awe.  Check Santa’s times at the various malls. Take plenty of pictures.

+ Skating at the Emera Oval. No skates?  No problem.  At the Oval there is a large supply of skates that can be borrowed for free.  Daytime or under the lights, join the crowds and enjoy this HRM gem!  And why not finish the day back home with hot chocolate or warm cider.

+ Carol singing.  Gather as a group of several families or just your own and start knocking on doors and singing traditional carols.  Don’t be bashful. Even if it’s cold, this will warm your heart and get everyone in the holiday spirit.

+ Tobogganing and cross-country skiing.  As long as there’s snow, HRM is a great place to slide down golf course or other public hills or to ski through Point Pleasant or Shubie Park trails.  Be safe and dress warmly, but most of all, have fun!

+ Taking a winter stroll along the waterfront boardwalks of Halifax and Dartmouth.  Early evenings will allow you to see the lights of the cities and to appreciate how truly beautiful our hometown really is.

We hope you can get out and enjoy the holidays, in whatever way your traditions take you.

The holidays are tailor-made for families and from our family at Scotia Fuels, we wish all our customers a safe and happy holiday season!
