We feel it is important to give back to the community where we do business and where our customers and employees live. As our families prepare to celebrate the holidays and usher in a New Year, the Scotia Fuels Team is making donations to several local charities. These contributions help organizations with valuable funding to deliver impactful services to needy groups in HRM.
Hope Blooms <hopeblooms.ca> is a social enterprise that empowers youth and the community at large in the inner city of Halifax. Hope uses innovative agricultural and culinary programs to engage kids from 6-18 years to become change agents, which has made huge impacts in the community. Teaching leadership and inclusion in high need communities is an extremely worthwhile endeavour that we think is important to our city.
Family SOS <familysos.ca> was founded 41 years ago to support children and families in HRM by providing guidance and tools to help them manage their circumstances. By delivering programs like summer day camps and after school programs to children and teens in our marginal communities, Family SOS helps families evolve and creates positive turning points for vulnerable groups.
Hope Cottage <hopecottage.ca> is entering its 50th year of serving hot meals to homeless and needy men and women of our city. Operating without any government funding, Hope Cottage delivers soup and sandwiches for lunch and a hot meal for dinner Mondays to Fridays at its familiar location on Brunswick Street.
To round out our 2019 list of holiday charities, Scotia Fuels is donating winter coats to the Brunswick Street Mission <brunswickstreetmission.org>. This organization serves the homeless and those in danger of becoming homeless by operating clothing and food banks, serving hot breakfasts Monday – Saturday, tax return preparation, trustee services for financial management assistance, and a program that provides a Christmas dinner and gifts to individuals and families with great needs.
