With the arrival of spring and the temperatures starting to get warmer, your home’s heating system will begin to take a break from the hard work of keeping you warm. Now and over the next few months can be a great time for homeowners to schedule an annual furnace cleaning, tune-up and detailed inspection of all their home heating equipment.  This will make sure that when your furnace is needed in the fall, it will operate at peak performance and efficiency.
We detailed in past blogs what tasks are involved in an annual cleaning, tune-up and inspection. We’d now like to let you know who is certified to perform this service on your home heating equipment and how they are trained.
Like other provinces in Canada, only workers who are licenced as Oil Heat Systems Technicians can perform work on your home heating equipment. Licencing in this trade requires that a candidate registers as an apprentice in the Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency, completes three, 5-6 week, in-class education sessions, completes 5,400 hours of documented practical experience and successfully passes a certification exam. A fully licenced and Red Seal certified technician is knowledgeable and skilled in all aspects of oil heating equipment. He or she can install, repair and maintain oil-fired domestic and light commercial appliances, components and systems. This includes safety training, fire protection, tools, fuel delivery systems, combustion and air handling, electrical controls and wiring, fuel tanks and many other aspects of oil heating.
At Scotia Fuels, you can be confident that any work done on your home heating equipment, including the annual heating system tune-up and inspection – which is included in our bundled price for all our customers, will be performed by a Certified Oil Heat System Technician. Our expert technicians are also on call 24/7 and will get back to you very quickly if you have an emergency with your heating system. The labour for this service is also included in the price our customers pay for heating oil.
